The Sands Residence - 185 Lake Otis Road
A true piece of architectural history, 185 Lake Otis Road in Winter Haven was designed by the late Gene Leedy, a founding father of The Sarasota School of Architecture. Known as the Sands Residence, this mid-century modern masterpiece was created for the Sands Family in 1965 and features 3 levels of mid-century modernism. Sited on Lake Otis, known by the locals as "Lake Leedy", this structure stands among one of the most impressive and recognizable examples of Mr. Leedys' work. Throughout the 3543 sqft of living space you will find all the elements that earmark a Leedy home from the natural finished Ocala block, expansive double "T" beam ceilings, original cork flooring, minimalist fireplace and clean line interiors that bring the outdoors in. The Sands brought their own touch to the property with the addition of salvaged ironwork from the Ocala Post Office that you will find around the home's perimeter. Rear balconies not only offer amazing tree-top views of pristine Lake Otis, but you can also see 6 other Leedy designs on neighboring shorelines.
